Why Some Are Happy And Some Are Miserable

Marci Shimoff, author of "Chicken Soup for the Woman's Soul", "Chicken Soup for the Mother's Soul", "Happy for No Reason", and contributing author of the highly successful book, "The Secret", is one of the most successful self-help book authors for women.

Aside from her impressive writing career, Marci has been made famous by her appearances in other types of media. She has appeared on more than 500 shows for radio and television, she has been featured in more than 100 newspapers, and her articles have been featured in popular women's magazines including "Ladies' Home Journal" and "Woman's World".

Because of her interest in the motivation and development of others, Marci Shimoff co-founded and is a board member for the Transformational Leadership Council. The council so far has helped over 10 million people in the self-development market.

Marci has known since the 1970's that she wanted to make a career out of professional speaking. Back in 1970, most people had never even heard of a career in public speaking. Why would anyone want to talk for a living? Marci wasn't discouraged, though. In fact, her father was the one who told her to do whatever would make her happy.

Marci Shimoff will be the first to tell you that success and happiness aren't the same thing. Think about all of the wildly successful people throughout the world who have billions of dollars but never seem to be happy. Past success doesn't make for a current fulfillment. Success isn't what makes them happy.

Fancy cars, jets, estate homes, and things like that are popular among rich people, but have you noticed how many of them are only happy when they use their money to help people rather than buy more "stuff"? Perhaps it's because the "stuff" can be lost, stolen, broken, or destroyed. Benefits to society are a way to get the "pay it forward" ball rolling, though.

The "Forbes Wealthiest People in America" list says that wealthy people are 40% less happy than average Americans. Does that statistic surprise you? Marci wrote "Happy for No Reason" to help people see the bigger pictures. Money isn't the answer just as success isn't the answer.

"I'll be happy when..." also isn't the answer. People who are always looking for outside fulfillment will never truly be happy. Those who are 100% satisfied are those whose happiness comes from within. They are people whose happiness comes for "no reason" at all.
